MEET THE TEAM
The Glasgow Academy Archive began in 2019 after an initial scoping project to determine the needs of the ever-increasing collections of historic material and artefacts within the school.
Following advice from the Business Archives Council of Scotland, in October 2019, the school appointed its first professional Archivist, Lorraine Murray. The Head of Development, Catherine Mulgrew has oversight of the Archive, which is also supported by colleagues within External Relations, led by its Director, Steven Dignall.
The team has gone from strength to strength with the addition of Archive Volunteers. Emily was our first University Student and was able to work on a discrete project, working on the Atholl School records for a couple of years. Mags is our long standing Archives Volunteer and works on many tasks, mostly relating to our alumni community and events.
In 2021, we trialled our first student volunteer from within the school community, a sixth year student, Carl. Following this, we broadened our offering in 2022 to include fifth year students, offering a volunteering opportunity with a focus on digital and research skills - useful transferrable skills for further or higher education. Presently, our volunteering within the school is open to senior students and those looking to gain volunteer experience for their Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
